Dominica needs more promotion for carnival
Chief Cultural Officer Raymond Lawrence believes more publicity and promotion for Dominica’s carnival is required to have the event registered on the world calendar. Revelers take to the streets on Monday and Tuesday for the two days of jump up in Dominica’s 2008 carnival, the Real Mas.

The Dominica Calypso Association 2008 Calypso semi finals were held at the Harlem plaza Newtown Savannah last night. 9 calypsonians earned the right to challenge the reining Calypso King The Hunter.
Carnival Pageant winners to get Scholarships
During the official opening of Dominica Carnival 2008, minister of Lorainne Bannis-Roberts announced that in addition to prize money, the government will provide scholarships for winners of the Carnival Queen Competition.
Carnival Prize Money Announced
The Dominica Festivals Commission announced the various prizes for carnival bands and other participating groups for this year’s real mas.
New Road Parade Route for Carnival Opening.
The road parade to mark the opening of Real Mas 2008 will start at 3:30pm on Saturday. The parade will be along a new route.
Real Mas 2008 receives more sponsorship
Harris Paints and DOMLEC and United Distributors LTD all announced sponsorship of Carnival today. Harris Paints will sponsor a queen contestant Norisa Newton of Wesley, the company will provide full sponsorship to Miss Newton.
Calypso Semi Finalists decided
20 Calypsonians survived the Calypso Association’s quarter finals on Saturday night.They will advance to the semi finals to be held on Saturday Jan. 19th.
Carnival Princess and Teenage Pageant launches
Saturday January 5th 2008 will see the official launch of the Carnival Princess and Teenage Pageant contestants. The ceremony will be officiated by the Waitukubuli Dance Theatre Company and the Rotaract Club of Roseau.

Showdowns’ Mas Camp opens
Organizers are expecting an exciting start to the 2008 calypso season, when the Showdown Mas Camp opens tonight at the Newtown Harlem Plaza. Calypsonians expected to perform tonight will include former Trinidad and Tobago Calypso monarch Singing Sandra.
